Fake call center provides technical support, cheats us citizens, busted | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: A team of Chief Minister’s flying squad busted a fake call center operating from a commercial building in Sector 74A on Wednesday. Three persons were arrested on the spot and three others were booked for running the centre.
According to the police, the call center was involved in duping US citizens in the name of technical assistance.
The accused used to send massive pop-up messages asking US citizens to call a toll-free number to fix their computers.
The phone calls made by the victims will reach this pretend center in the city.
The accused will then mislead the victim and accuse her of hacking her phone or claim that a virus has affected her functioning. They will then pay anywhere between 500-2000 US dollars to the victim through Google Payment and gift cards.
During the raids, several youths were found wearing headsets and speaking in an American accent to the speaker on the phone. Call center owners will collect data on US citizens from a variety of sources.
