The Mettur police on Monday sentenced a 53-year-old man to six months imprisonment for making a false bomb threat to the Mettur Dam.
According to the police, on August 19, 2022, an unknown person called up the police control room in Chennai and said that a bomb was about to explode at the Mettur Dam. Bomb Deduction and Disposal Squad and Mettur Police investigated the dam and the park and found the call to be false. The police identified that the call had come from Sirumugai in Coimbatore district, and a special police team from Salem went to Coimbatore and A.M. Mahalingam (53) was arrested.
The case was heard at the Judicial Magistrate Court I in Mettur and on Monday the court sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment. Sources said that since the accused has been in jail for the last six months, he will be released.
