BENGALURU: Upset over a stray dog barking, a farmer allegedly killed him by using his air gun at Medagondanahalli village near Doddaballapur, 40 km from Bengaluru, on Saturday.
Doddaballapur Rural Police has registered a case against Krishnappa under IPC section 428 (killing or maiming an animal worth Rs 10) following a complaint by Pran Pakshi Dasoha Trust. The incident happened at 1 pm on Saturday. Krishnappa, who runs a pig farm and also has a herd of pet dogs, was reportedly annoyed by the locals with the stray dog, called ‘Raki’, as he often barked at him.
Police said a man identified as Harish claimed that he was taking care of ‘Raki’. According to villagers, the dog barked at Krishnappa and tried to shoot with his air gun, but the dog managed to escape. Krishnappa followed him, caught him in the field and fired several bullets at him. The dog suffered serious injuries and died. Villagers in Doddaballapur town alerted Pranipakshi Dasoha Trust and its representatives reached the spot and complained to the police.
A policeman said, “We have taken up the matter against Krishnappa. Veterinarians conducted the postmortem and we are awaiting the report.”
