Film family of Don Palthara selected for 32nd International Film Festival Innsbruck

Don Palthara’s critically acclaimed Malayalam film Family produced by Newton Cinema has recently been selected in competition at the 32nd International Film Festival Innsbruck. Also, it has been selected for the 15th Habitat Film Festival and will be screened at the festival on 7th May. Not only this, the film will be screened at the Innsbruck International Film Festival on 7 and 9 June. It had its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

According to reports, in a recent media interaction, the director and the entire team expressed happiness and excitement that Family has been selected for two prestigious film festivals. “We believe the family has something important to say about the complexities of contemporary India,” said the producer.

The Family depicts the complexities and contradictions of family relations in contemporary India. Vinay Fort plays the lead role of Soni, a good role model Christian who is always ready to help his countrymen, helps struggling children in their studies and organizes volunteer activities. He negotiates with the church to financially rehabilitate a family when it is hit by a disaster. Soni is the heartbeat of this small Catholic village. However, beyond this image of him, there is much in his character that is unnatural. Beyond a village and religion, Parivar is a film that takes a closer look at Kerala society.

Don Palthara wrote the screenplay with Sherin Catherine. The Family also stars Neelaja’s Baby, Divya Prabha, Mathew Thomas, Jain Andrews, Jolly Chirayath, Sajitha Madathil, Jithin Puthanchery and Abhija Sivakala in pivotal roles. The film’s cinematography was handled by Jalil Badusha.

Prior to Parivaar, Palthara directed Santoshinte Onam Rahasyam. The film starred Jithin Puthenchery and Reema Kalingal in the lead roles. It premiered on February 21, 2021 at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in Thiruvananthapuram.
