The Union Finance Ministry has invited applications for the appointment of the next Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) who will succeed Ajay Tyagi.
The ministry has invited applications for the post of SEBI chairman for a maximum tenure of five years or 65 years, whichever is earlier.
Tyagi is a 1984 batch IAS officer Himachal Pradesh He was first appointed as the Chairman of SEBI on March 1, 2017 for a period of three years. However, his tenure was extended by six months, and later in August 2020, he was given an extension of 18 months.
The last date for submission of applications is on or before December 6, 2021. “Incomplete applications and applications received after the last date will not be considered,” said the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
As per the process of appointment of regulators, candidates will be shortlisted by the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee (FSRASC) headed by the Cabinet Secretary.
The shortlisted candidates are interviewed by the Secretary of Economic Affairs and a panel of three external members having domain knowledge.
on the basis of negotiations, FSRASC Recommends the name to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approval.
