New Delhi: The president of Angola, João Manuel Goncalves Lourenço, arrived in India for the first state visit by a leader of the country in 38 years. He received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He is on a four-day visit to India from 1 to 4 May. The president has been accompanied by a high-level delegation, including several ministers, senior officials, and the media.
On Saturday, PM Modi and the Angolan president held a joint press conference at the Hyderabad House, where, in reference to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the PM said, “We thank Angola for standing with us in our fight against cross-border terrorism.”
The two sides signed a number of agreements to shore up cooperation in several areas.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, “A number of MoUs/ agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, which shall give a fillip to bilateral relations.”
