Noida: Government Institute of Medical Sciences (Jims) will soon launch an MRI facility under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The set-up is expected to cost over Rs 5 crore and will be the first of its kind in a government center in the district.
“We started CT scan In 2020 the facility and MRI machine will start working by February next year. All preparations and approvals are in place,” said Dr (Brigade) Rakesh Gupta, director, GIMS. He said that the tender has already been floated.
Currently no one is in government hospital gautam budh nagar And Ghaziabad Facility and usually refer their patients to government centers in Delhi and Meerut. Sometimes this causes a lot of inconvenience to the patients, who are forced to spend huge sums of money in getting tests done in private diagnostic centers or hospitals.
Apart from this, GIMS has also arranged for neurosurgeons through a corporate firm.
“There are three neurosurgeons who regularly visit the hospital and take care of the patients. Similarly we have also arranged for Gastroenterologist and Reconstructive Surgeon. All of them are paid Rs 2,000 per visit,” said Dr Gupta.
Health department sources said MRI facility cannot be started in district level hospitals as they are meant for treating general patients. Furthermore, they lack specialists like neurosurgeons to provide tertiary level treatments.
“No purpose will be served by having only MRI machine in the district hospital if follow-up treatment cannot be provided to the patient after MRI or CT scan,” the sources said.
He said that most of the district hospitals in the state do not even have the basic strength to run medical facilities, let alone experts.
GIMS also plans to start sequencing of COVID patients for detection of new variants by March next year. Officials said the facility would come up at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
