First Rank Rivalry: Classmate’s mother imprisoned for poisoning 13-year-old boy in Karaikal

In a horrific incident that took place in Karaikal town of Puducherry region, a mother has been accused of murdering her daughter’s classmate as the boy has scored higher marks in the school examination than her daughter. According to the police, the woman had poisoned the 13-year-old boy as she could not bear the fact that the boy had outperformed his daughter in the examination and stood first and her daughter stood second. The police arrested the woman and sent her to jail.

According to reports, the alleged perpetrator has been identified as Sahyarani Victoria, whose daughter studies in class VIII in a private school in Karaikal. He allegedly mixed the poison with a cold drink and handed it over to the security guard of the school, requesting him to give it to his daughter’s classmate Bala Manikandan, who was getting better grades than her.

However, the woman reportedly told the guard that she was a relative of Manikandan and apparently Manikandan’s mother had asked the guard to hand over a bag of cold drinks. Believing this, the security guard handed over the liquor and Manikandan drank a refreshing drink at the school.

According to father Rajendran, on the day of the incident, Bala Manikandan had gone to school for the annual day rehearsal held on 3rd September. After coming home in the afternoon, the girl started vomiting. According to her father, Manikandan told her parents that she was vomiting ever since the school watchman gave her a cold drink. He was rushed to the nearby Karaikal Government Hospital, where doctors tried to save his life, but on September 4, the student died during treatment.

Meanwhile, the school informs the parents that Manikandan has received the drink that the parents sent. On the other hand, the parents claimed that they did not give cold drinks to their son Manikandan for school. When the parents asked the school janitor for more details, he replied that a person claiming to be a relative of Bala Manikandan had asked him to give the student a drink.

The police, after reviewing the CCTV footage around the school, registered a case and arrested the accused, who has been identified as Sahyarani Victoria. During investigation, the accused pleaded guilty and confessed that he had decided to poison the teenager as he could not bear the fact that Manikandan was consistently outperforming his daughter academically.

Meanwhile, the woman was put in jail and the police are also trying to find out whether the accused woman committed the crime herself or along with others. The deceased boy is the son of Rajendran and Malti, living in Nehru Colony, Karaikal.
