Karachi: At least three of the six franchises have reported five new COVID positive cases including players and officials. Pakistan Super League Starting next week.
Six franchises have started assembling in Karachi Pakistan Cricket Board The seventh edition of the league will begin on January 27 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
On Thursday, sources said that the three franchises had reported five positive cases of players and officials.
“These are the first positive cases among the teams in Karachi,” said a source.
Quetta Gladiators The franchise has already lost three overseas signings including Shermon HetmyerJames Faulkner and luke woods for their first match as all three tested positive and went into isolation even before they could fly to Karachi.
A Pakistan Board official clarified that they were prepared for all situations due to the rising Covid-19 cases in the country and the league was still on schedule.
“We have clear contingency plans in place due to the worldwide COVID-19 situation. Even if a franchise is without seven to eight players, their matches will still go on as scheduled due to any case and players are in isolation at their team hotels. I’ll go,” he said.
He said that living with COVID is a reality now in cricket and despite positive cases in various cricket playing countries matches were going on or being postponed or rescheduled for a few days.
He informed that Kovid positive cases were also reported in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup in West Indies, but the tournament was on.
“All the boards have prepared contingency plans as we have so we are confident that PSL will be completed in the stipulated time.”
The last two PSL editions had to be stopped and rescheduled due to the COVID-19 cases in Karachi.
All team players and officials will start checking at the team hotel and Bio Secure Bubble from Thursday night.
