Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]Jan 29 (ANI): Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said that the permission to hoist the tricolor at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Sunday was given by the state administration.
The Congress had earlier planned to hoist the national flag at the PCC office on Monday to mark the conclusion of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a tweet, Jairam Ramesh said, “@RahulGandhi had to unfurl the national flag at the PCC office on Jan 30, as he was not allowed to do so elsewhere. Last evening, the state administration allowed them to do so at Lal Chowk, but on the condition that it should be done at the end of #BharatJodoYatra today, 29th.
Jairam’s statement came hours after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi unfurled the national flag at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Sunday.
Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is in its final leg in Jammu and Kashmir.
The yatra will travel to Nehru Park in the Boulevard area of the city and conclude on Monday.
The yatra began on Friday morning from Banihal railway station on National Highway-44 in Ramban district of the Union Territory.
Security was tightened in the area in the wake of the recent twin blasts on the outskirts of Jammu city on January 22, in which at least nine people were injured in the busy Narwal area.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which began in Kanyakumari on September 7, is scheduled to end in Srinagar on January 30 (Monday) after covering 3,970 kms, 12 states and two union territories. (ANI)
