he was speaking on the national Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in a program organized on Saturday in a college in Jalna.
Lauding the NEP, Sawant said the examination system under it would be comprehensive and would facilitate continuous assessment of the child.
He claimed that the current examination system does not assess the overall quality of a child and called for its overhaul.
“How can a child be assessed by a test of two or three hours?” He asked.
The “faulty examination system has given rise to private coaching classes” and their turnover is high, he said. He also hit out at teachers for wasting their energy in unionizing, fighting for pay hike and other benefits, which has resulted in deterioration in the quality of education. Sawant said that regardless of political parties in Finland, teacher organizations make education policy as they know the need and pulse of the society.
