As the city shiveres from the drop in temperature, fevers and flu are making a comeback.
Senior Consultant Physician at KIMS Hospitals K. Shivraju says that in the last one week, two categories of cases have come before him. The first category includes the age group above 60 years, those with asthma, post-COVID, and have developed lung infections, requiring hospitalization.
Another youth population is complaining of cold, cough, fever, sore throat and blocked nose.
“Normally, it subsides in three to five days, but now it has been increased – seven to 10 days. People have been complaining that they got cold or fever after going out at night,” says Dr Sivaraju.
In view of the pandemic situation, prolonged cold and fever are terrifying people and undergoing COVID tests. In such a scenario, the consultant physicians recommend following safety precautions to avoid unnecessary worry about the COVID test results and fear among the family members.
People will have to cover themselves with warm clothes, get a flu shot, avoid smoking and stay indoors, says M. Narendra, professor of pulmonology at the Government General and Chest Hospital. They suggest that doors and windows be kept closed for ventilation and opened every four hours.
Doctors recommend going out in the cold, whether it’s a morning walk or a late night ride. “If people have to go out, they have to take extra protective measures to keep themselves warm,” says Dr. Sivaraju.
