Influenza and the flu both cause respiratory tract infections that cause more or less similar symptoms. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a person can suffer from both the infections at the same time and share similar symptoms like sore throat, cough, runny nose, fever, headache and fatigue. The severity of the condition depends from person to person. Some may have mild symptoms, while others may have severe symptoms. But both the conditions can be fatal if not treated on time. A person with COVID may experience a loss of taste and smell, which is not associated with the flu. Even the post-infection complications seen in the case of COVID are missing when infected with influenza virus.
