The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recently shared some tips to stay safe during thunderstorms and sand storms. Most parts of the country are now covered by Monsoon and several states are likely to receive heavy rain and thundershowers.
Thunderstorms and storms often cause serious damage to domestic animals, crops and vehicles. In a recent tweet, the NDMA shared some steps to be prepared for possible thunderstorms and thunderstorms. The guidelines are divided into pre-storm preparedness, measures to consider during a storm, and things to keep in mind after a hurricane.

Here’s how to prepare before a thunderstorm, according to the do’s and don’ts listed by the NDMA.
Prepare an emergency kit containing essential items for survival and safety.
· Make repairs and secure your home. Do not leave sharp objects loose.
· Keep an eye on the latest happenings on TV channels and Radio.

When a storm hits, keep these things in mind:
Try to stay indoors and away from verandahs or balconies.
Unplug electrical equipment and avoid using corded telephones.
Do not use running water and stay away from metal pipes.
Stay away from metal sheeting and roof structures.
Stop if you are inside a bus or car.
Do not take shelter under or near a tree. Stay away from power lines.
Do not use any metal object.

After the storm passes, the NDMA suggests:
Stay away from hurricane-damaged areas
Help the elderly, children and the disabled
Stay away from fallen trees or power lines and report it to the concerned authorities.

Set up a safe area for animals in or near your home.
