San Francisco:
Dramatic video emerged yesterday of a man wielding a hammer at former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband at their San Francisco home last October.
Police body camera footage released by a court shows suspects David Deppe and Paul Pelosi standing side by side inside a home.
The situation appears relatively calm but both men have their hands on hammers. DePape is in a sweater and shorts, while Paul Pelosi, 82, is dressed in just a shirt.
A police officer can be heard saying, “Kya ho raha hai yaar?” Then “drop the hammer.”
Shortly after, the alleged assailant attacked Paul Pelosi and police rushed and apprehended him.
Paul Pelosi can be seen lying motionless on the ground.
Deppe, a 42-year-old public nudity activist, has denied attempted murder and other charges in connection with the break-in.
He told the police that he intended to kidnap Nancy Pelosi. She was not at home at that time.
Paul Pelosi was sedated and spent almost a week in the hospital, where he had surgery.
Nancy Pelosi, who was succeeded by Kevin McCarthy this month after winning control of the House of Representatives in November’s elections, said she had not seen the footage.
“I don’t even know if I will be able to see (it) or not,” she told reporters on Thursday.
“I mean, it would be very difficult to watch my husband’s life come under attack,” Pelosi said.
