Former hockey star and current Odisha Police DSP Birender Lakra accused of killing a friend

Indian hockey star Birender Lakra has been accused of killing his friend Anand Tappo with the help of his girlfriend.

According to the complaint of the deceased’s father Bandhan Tappo at Infocity police station, Birendra and Anand were living together in a flat in Bhubaneswar.

Bandhan alleged that the pair had an argument over Anand’s girlfriend Manjeet Tete and that Birender and Manjeet had killed Anand with the help of an acquaintance on February 28.

He also said that Birender and Manjeet tried to suppress the matter and made it look like suicide.

“When Anand died Birendra said that he was listening to music on iPod while Manjeet and Anand were inside the house. Manjeet, on the other hand, claimed that she was in the bathroom where the incident took place. Manjot was the reason for the quarrel between Birendra and Anand. After an argument, Birendra and Manjeet had killed Anand,” said Bandhan.

At the time of writing this, Birender Lakra has not responded to the allegations and according to sources, is expected to address the media on Tuesday and clarify his stand.

As an act, former Indian hockey vice-captain and Olympic bronze medalist Birender joined Odisha Police as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on February 17.
