Former India selector says ‘young player careless in his approach’ after Edgbaston Test loss

the former India Player and selector Jatin Paranjpe believes some Indian youngsters were a bit careless in their approach during the recently concluded 5th Test India vs England Test which was won by the home team – chasing a record target of 378 – thus making sure to end the series at 2-2. India were strong contenders to win the fifth Test in the fourth day, but poor batting performance by the team in the second innings opened the doors for England and Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow’s mammoth 269-run stand gave England a memorable victory. While Joe Root scored an unbeaten 142 at the start of the 5th day, Jonny Bairstow also scored his second century of the match with an unbeaten 112.

“I dare say that some young players were a little careless in their approach and that is a bit worrying for me. It can be one of two things: Either you want to play that way and feel it’s the best way to express yourself, or you don’t get the seriousness of a certain situation. The latter is very, very dangerous. What is this clarity Rahul [Dravid] And Vikram Rathour will try to get established very early with the young players,” said the former Mumbai player.

Paranjpe said youngsters like Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer should take responsibility in Test cricket. He said that if Gill could have added more runs in the Test, the outcome of the game could have been in India’s favour. Paranjpe said, “The way Gill was batting in the first innings, if he had batted like this for 45 minutes, he would have scored 40 runs, then imagine India can score 50 runs without any loss… Would have been a different ball game.” Cricket journalist and anchor Jamie Alter during an episode of his chat show on Nazar.

“While I think the world of young players in the team, these are really great opportunities for them to see what the opportunity areas are in front of them and can learn from. The third innings is very tense, very important in a match like this and that is where I think England replaced Anderson with Gill. It was a big wicket, which was the turning point of the game.”

While Gill scored just 17 and 4 in two innings – both times losing to James Anderson, Iyer scored 15 and 19 at No. 6, but the more dangerous both times fell for small things, and against special tactics at sea. saw.

Paranjpe believed that the Indian team had a good grip on the match till the third innings. “There were two or three pieces in the game where India should have done better. In Test matches, the third innings is very important and I thought India were different and timid in their third innings. He should have come out with a more objective. I think it is up to the young players to stand up and count in times like these. Many youths have got many opportunities. It’s time to really grind it out, play half a session, a full session, try to think like a captain when you are at the crease. ,

The young players of the Indian team looked very promising at the start of the Edgbaston Test. While Rishabh Pant stunned everyone with his scintillating batting performance, the other youngsters did not do well.
