Former Maharashtra minister Ramdas Kadam resigns from Shiv Sena

Mumbai: In a setback to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, its senior leader and former Maharashtra minister Ramdas Kadam on Monday resigned from the party.

Kadam wrote a letter to Thackeray, the former Maharashtra chief minister, in which he tendered his resignation as a “Shiv Sena leader”.

Kadam had served as the state environment minister in the BJP-Shiv Sena government (2014–19) in the state.

When Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi was in power (from November 2019 to June 2022) he was not given any ministerial post and was apparently angry.

He was also denied another term as a member of the State Legislative Council last year.

Last month, Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde along with 39 MLAs had revolted against the party.

Yogesh Kadam, son of Ramdas Kadam, MLA from Dapoli in Ratnagiri district, had also joined the Shinde camp.

Shinde took oath as chief minister on June 30 and BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis took oath as deputy chief minister. -PTI
