Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Friday filed an application in Mumbai’s Esplanade Court seeking quashing of the court’s proclamation order against him, which declared him an ‘absconding’. The court will hear the matter on November 29.

The former Mumbai Police Commissioner, declared absconding by a Mumbai court, had appeared before the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police to record his statement in an extortion case registered against him.

Singh had leveled allegations of corruption and abuse of official position against Deshmukh in March this year when he was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner following the Antilia bombing incident.

He accused Deshmukh of asking police officials to collect Rs 100 crore every month from restaurants and bars in Mumbai, a charge denied by the NCP leader.

The commission of inquiry probing the allegations had directed Singh to appear to record his statement, but the IPS officer, who was almost in touch since May, did not turn up.

The panel had also imposed cost on Singh for non-appearance and even went ahead to issue a bailable warrant of Rs 50,000.

Param Bir Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner on March 17 and made General Commander of the Maharashtra State Home Guard after allegations were leveled against Deshmukh.
