Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry dies in road accident: Live Updates

A police officer said that Mistry was going from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car. The accident happened near the Gujarat-Maharashtra border.

“The accident happened around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. The accident happened on the bridge over the Surya river. It feels like an accident,” the police officer told the news agency PTI,

Two other people traveling with him, including the driver of the car, were injured. The other injured have been admitted to a hospital in Gujarat.

There were a total of four people in the vehicle. Police said two were killed, including Cyrus Mistry.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and the car rammed into the divider near the river bridge.

He was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

After Ratan Tata, Cyrus became the chairman of Tata Sons in 2012. But he was ousted four years later in a boardroom coup led by Tata Trusts, which owned 66% of Tata Sons and was controlled by Ratan Tata.

The controversy began with allegations of mismanagement and suppression of minority shareholder rights. The 2021 court in Tata’s favor left the bridges burnt between the two families, who had been partners for 70 years.

Following his Tata tenure, Cyrus founded a venture capital firm, Mistry Ventures LLP.

Cyrus Mistry’s daughter Aloo is the wife of Ratan Tata’s half-brother Noel Tata.
