Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry died in a road accident on Sunday when his car rammed into a divider in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a police official said. said a police officer.
Mistry was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car, he said.

“The accident happened around 3.15 pm, when Mr Mistry was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. The accident happened on the bridge over the Surya river. It feels like an accident,” said the police officer.
An official of Kasa police station said that the accident took place at Charoti Naka on Surya river bridge under Kasa police station area.
Mistry’s body has been sent to Casa Rural Hospital for postmortem.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the death of Mistry. The Prime Minister said that Mistry was a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic power.
“The untimely demise of Mr. Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a promising business leader who believed in the economic power of India. His death is a great loss to the commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace,” read Mr Modi’s tweet.
Condoling the demise of Mr. Mistry, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal said that Indian industry has lost a shining star and his contribution to the country’s economic progress will always be remembered.
“Deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden demise of Cyrus Mistry. Indian industry has lost one of its shining stars, whose contribution to India’s economic progress will always be remembered,” Mr Goyal wrote in a tweet.
“My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
Lok Sabha MP and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule also tweeted, “Destructive news my brother Cyrus Mistry passed away. Can’t believe it. Rest in peace Cyrus.”
Two other people traveling with him, including the driver of the car, were injured. All the injured have been admitted to a hospital in Gujarat.
The SP said that more details would be obtained from him.
