Former UP minister Atmaram Tomar found dead at home, police suspects murder

A senior police officer said that Tomar’s driver Vijay reached his house on Friday morning and rang the doorbell but there was no response.

Former minister Atmaram Tomar, who contested the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on a BJP ticket from Chhaprauli in Baghpat district, was found dead in his house under suspicious circumstances on Friday. A towel was wrapped around his neck and his car and phone were missing.

Originally a resident of village Bijraul, Tomar was living in a house on Bijraul Road in the city.

Top police officers have reached the spot and started investigation. Forensic team and dog squad have also been called.

A senior police officer said that prima facie it appears that Tomar was strangled to death.

He said Tomar’s driver Vijay reached his house on Friday morning and rang the doorbell but there was no response.

He made several attempts but when no one opened the door, he pushed his way and found Tomar dead.

Vijay immediately informed the police. There was no other family member in the house at that time.

The body has been sent for postmortem.
