Energy, Kannada and Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar on Friday laid the foundation stone of a cow shala to be set up by the Sri Vishwakrishna Go Seva Trust, run by Visvaprasanna Tirtha, the seer of the Udupi Pejavar Math, at Hebri. On the occasion, Mr. Kumar announced a contribution of ₹5 lakh for Go Shala.
Padmanabha Acharya, a devotee of the monastery, has donated seven acres of his ancestral property at Gilali near Hebri to a project that aims to protect cows that are either being given away or abandoned in slaughterhouses. Used to be.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar appreciated the mission undertaken by the seer and said that this is the second cow shed in his constituency.
The minister said that he would try to get all support from the government for the project, apart from announcing a personal donation of Rs 5 lakh.
Vishwaprasanna Teertha said the trust plans to open three more cow shaalas in the next three years, while one each at Nilavara, Kodavuru and Kabinale are already functional. Incidentally, the seer will turn 60 in three years.
Karnataka Coastal Development Authority chairman Matar Ratnakar Hegde said the authority would provide grants for the construction of guesthouses at the cow shed.
