Fresh layoffs begin in Meta globally, technical staff most affected

San Francisco: Meta (formerly Facebook) has started a fresh round of layoffs globally, handing out pink slips to employees with technical backgrounds.

Several Meta employees took to LinkedIn to post their ordeal, saying they were asked to leave.

“I woke up this morning to the unfortunate news that I was one of the many people fired from Meta today. If you have any career opportunities, please don’t hesitate to share them with me! My main focus for the past 3 years has been “Establishing programs focused on increasing opex and headcount org efficiency,” business program manager Teresa Jimenez posted on Facebook.

She added that many “product-focused technical program managers are unfortunately still affected today. Please reach out to me if you have an opportunity and I’ll make an introduction”.

The job cuts have affected people working in verticals such as user experience, software engineering, graphics programming and other roles.

A META spokesperson confirmed to CNBC that the cuts had begun.

As per reports, the Meta layoffs affected the Instagram office in London and staff could either be cut or relocated as part of the company’s latest round of layoffs.

Meta is reportedly set to lay off at least 4,000 high-skilled workers this week.

In March, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would cut 10,000 jobs in the coming months.

Meta will also announce newly restructured teams and management hierarchies.

The latest cuts come just four months after Meta laid off 11,000 employees, or 13 per cent of the company’s workforce, in November last year.
