75th Independence Day: The Congress on Sunday shared former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s handwritten draft of his famous maiden Independence Day speech in which he wrote about the country’s “date with luck”, but gave it as “attempt with luck”. .

Congress General Secretary, Communications, Jairam Ramesh also shared the video of Nehru’s speech given in the midnight session of the Constituent Assembly as India gained independence on August 15, 1947.

Ramesh said on Twitter, “75 years ago, after midnight, Nehru delivered his immortal ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech. Here is his handwritten draft dated 14.8.47. He wrote it as ‘Date with Destiny’ But in an instant the true genius presented it as ‘trying with destiny’.”

Nehru wrote in his draft note, “Many years ago we made a date with destiny, and now the time has come when we shall redeem our vows, not wholly or wholly, but to a great extent. On strike, while the world sleeps, India will wake up to life and freedom.”

“Our moment comes, which comes, but rarely in history, when we step from the old to the new, when an era ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this crucial moment we should take a pledge to serve India and its people and to the greater cause of humanity, Nehru said in his draft note dated 14 August 1947.
