The year 2021 has been great for Indian sports. We saw India end up with a record medal tally in the Olympics and Paralympics. Sumit Nagal PV Sindhu on the tennis court won her second Olympic medal, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen also won their first World Championship medals. The Indian cricket team had a good year for the Indian cricket team with consecutive Test series victories in Australia and beating England at home and then leading the series 2–1. They ended the year with a win at Centurion, where they had never won before. In fact, the Indian team won Tests at two other venues, the Gabba and The Oval, where they had never won before.
The year 2022 has come with even more expectations.

Virat Kohli is completing his 71st century
2021 was a tough one as a batsman for the Indian Test captain. As captain, he faced disappointments in the shorter formats, failing to win the ICC trophy being the biggest of them all. However, Virat had a stellar year as Test captain, winning matches overseas and matches India had never won before, like the Oval in England and Centurion in South Africa. But as a batsman he could not do much. Due to the pandemic and his incompetence in the innings, he has been stuck on 70 international tons for more than two years. He scored the last century in November of 2019 against Bangladesh in Kolkata. Virat wants to score his 71st run and wants to get the monkey off his back. He will also play his 100th Test, which could be India’s third Test against South Africa.
Neeraj Chopra breaks 90 meters
The year 2020 was great for Neeraj Chopra. He secured only the second individual gold medal for India at the Olympics. The year after that was quite busy but not on track. He was busy attending events and carrying out sponsor duties. He returned to training a month ago And looking forward to a great comeback. One of Neeraj’s major objectives would be to cross the 90m mark in javelin throw. So far no Indian has been able to cross that milestone. Neeraj’s personal best is 88.0m. This 24-year-old player himself says that the best throwers in the world are those who cross that level. Neeraj will have many opportunities to do so, starting with the World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Diamond League.
Women’s IPL
India women’s cricket has grown from strength to strength. This year the Indian team showed a great game in England and Australia. There is depth available in women’s cricket in India. And it’s time for women’s IPL to start. It will provide a great platform for women cricketers in India and can also help them financially. Fans will love it if not a full women’s IPL, and not the case of the three matches that we see every year between IPLs.
India better medals in Commonwealth Games and Asian Games
A happy hunting ground for Indian athletes, the Commonwealth Games will be less enjoyable for the contingent this time as shooting is not a part of the competition roster. It remains to be seen how India cope with the absence of the sport which has contributed 135 medals, including 63 gold, for the country since its debut in 1966.
Asian Games in Hangzhou, China (September 10 to 25): India registered its best sporting performance in the previous edition in 2018 and will be expected to do better only in the backdrop of a stellar Olympic performance.
World Cup medal winning Indian women’s hockey
The Indian women’s hockey team has set the bar quite high with a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics. Rani Rampal and her teammates will be eagerly waiting to build on the positivity of that performance. His best in the World Cup was fourth in the 1974 edition and he had managed to claim eighth place in the previous edition in England.
