Future Samsung phones may drop Android for this operating system

Google is working on Fuchsia OS since 2016.

Samsung’s decision to abandon Android and offer Google’s new open source operating system can be seen in the context of the growing relationship between the two companies.

Samsung is working towards replacing the Android operating system on its devices with Google’s long-awaited open-source operating system Fuchsia OS. In early May this year, leaked information claimed that it was “very likely” that the electronics company would adopt the new platform. The leak (via PhoneArena) did not specify which devices Samsung would use Fuchsia on, but it was believed that the company was highly unlikely to replace Android with the new open-source OS on smartphones. However, the tipster who goes by the name Dohyun Kim on Twitter claimed that the company may be bidding for the giant operating system to welcome the brand new Fuchsia OS.

What is Fuchsia OS?

Fuchsia OS, named after the bright-purple flower, is Google’s vision for a single operating system for all devices, regardless of their form factors. The platform is expected to be heavily updated to deal with one of the biggest problems facing Android – older devices. Moreover, the OS is being designed in such a way to provide a seamless experience to the users even when they are switching their devices. However, the publicly available emulator provides a rudimentary interface. Past demonstrations have shown smartphones running Fuchsia OS with the home page completely removed for faster app switching.
