Gadkari to Tesla: ‘Making in China and selling here is not a good proposition’

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today said Tesla is welcome to set up shop in India, manufacture cars for sale there and export them, but should not import cars from China.

According to a posting on the website of the country’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the company had received approval to manufacture or import four models in India in August. Tesla produces vehicles at factories in the US and China, and is awaiting final approval for a new plant in Germany.
