This festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to legends, Lord Ganesha was born during the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi usually falls in the month of August or September, and this time it will be celebrated on August 31, 2022. Ganesh Chaturthi (or Ganeshotsav) is a 10-day long festival that ends on Anant Chaturdashi. The last day is popularly celebrated as Ganesh Visarjan Day.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: History, Significance and Rituals

Devotees worship Lord Ganesha on this day for prosperity and good future. According to legends, Ganesh Chaturthi marks the reincarnation of Lord Ganesha. Hence Ganesh Chaturthi also signifies ‘new beginning’.

It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born during Madhyahna – in the middle of the day. Hence midday is considered to be the most auspicious time for Ganesh Puja, also known as Shodashopachara Ganapati Puja.
