history

The story of religious scriptures tells that Goddess Parvati created Ganesha. He used his sandalwood paste in the absence of Lord Shiva to protect him while taking a bath. Seeing this, Goddess Parvati became furious and transformed into Goddess Kali, threatening to destroy the entire universe. All the other gods worried and asked Lord Shiva to find a solution. He then suggested his followers to find a child and cut off its head. The condition was that the mother of the child should face the other side.

The first head found was that of an elephant baby. Lord Shiva added the head of an elephant and Lord Ganesha was reborn in his present form. Seeing this Goddess Parvati returned to her original form and from that day Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated every year.
