Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: Why Lord Ganesha loves Modak – Times of India

The colorful festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is here. And when we talk about this 10-day festival, modak is a must. This year, it all starts on August 31, 2022. Devotees offer modaks to Lord Ganesha every day during these 10 days. Based on Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha loved laddus, modaks and other sweets, hence he is also called Modakapriya. Lord Ganesha’s love for Modak

According to Hindu scriptures, once Lord Shiva accompanied Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha to Anusuya’s house in the forest. On their journey, Anusuya first served food to Lord Ganesha and he said that she would serve Lord Shiva only after Ganesha’s hunger was satisfied. During the meal, he served her a piece of sweet food. After eating sweets, Ganesha gave a loud burp and indicated to fill the stomach. The interesting thing is that the moment Ganesh burped, Lord Shiva also burped not once but 21 times.

Lord Ganesha and 21 Modaks

According to the scriptures, when Lord Shiva belched 21 times and Goddess Parvati came to know that it was the modak that satisfies both of them, she wished that the devotees of Ganapati would always offer her 21 modaks. Since then, they have been offered modaks in various parts of the country, where local flavors are added to the delightful balls, which are either deep fried or steamed.
