Speaking to reporters, Idukki SP Karuppasamy R said that some leads have been found in the interrogation of the suspects and others and based on that the police is proceeding with the investigation.

The officer also said that the victim’s medical examination confirmed that she was raped.

He further said that the friend of the victim who was present there at the time of the incident has also been questioned.

The incident took place at a tea garden in Idukki’s Poopara village, which is known for its tea and coffee gardens, where the girl had gone with her friend.

According to her complaint, while she was talking to her friend, four men came there and allegedly assaulted her and gang-raped her.

He had told the police that his friend cried out for help and local people rushed to his aid, causing the criminals to flee from the spot.

The incident was registered late Sunday night and an FIR was lodged on Monday morning, police said and added that the matter is under investigation.

Police said the girl’s parents are migrant workers from West Bengal and work in a plantation in Santhanpara village in the district.
