Gangadhar G., a well-known swimmer from Udupi. Kadekar is ready to swim in the sea for 3.5 km, his feet and hands are recorded in the Golden Book of World Records.
He will try to achieve the feat at Padukare in Udupi at 7 am on 24th January
Mr. Kadekar, a former employee of the Regional Transport Office, who is in his 60s, made it to the India Book of Records by swimming 1.4 km in 73.7 minutes with his legs chained in the ‘Padmasana’ pose in the sea at Padukare. Last year in Udupi.
He swam breaststroke against the wind and reached the flagpole on the east side of the shore. “I am confident of achieving new feats through practice,” he told presspersons in Udupi on Wednesday.
Mr. Kadekar started swimming at the age of 50. Concerned about many youth drowning in the sea, he has been training youth under Jai Durga Swimming Club since last two years.
Shri Kadekar has won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in state level and national level swimming competitions for seniors.
He had received the Udupi district level Karnataka Rajyotsava award last year.
Swimmer Gopal Kharvi from Udupi district made a similar attempt in 2013 as he successfully entered the Guinness Book of World Records wearing handcuffs and leg shackles by swimming 3.07 km from St. Mary’s Island to Malpe beach.
On December 18, 2020, Government school teacher Nagraj Kharvi broke into the India Book of Records by swimming 1km in 25 minutes and 16.63 seconds with his legs chained in the ‘Padmasana’ pose in the sea in Mangaluru. He has done this feat at Tannirbhavi Beach.
