Local media reported that armed police were stationed at a synagogue in Hagen (Representational)
Berlin:
Police in Germany said they had received information about a potential threat to a synagogue in the western city of Hagen and had taken appropriate measures to deal with it.
A spokesman declined to give further details about the operation Thursday evening, which coincides with the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur, when vigilante Jews hold an overnight vigil in the synagogue.
“We have information about a potential threat related to a Jewish institution in Hagen,” Dortmund police said on Twitter. “In response, security measures have been put in place. We are in close contact with the Jewish community.”
Local media reported that several armed police were deployed to the synagogue in Hagen, a city of about 200,000 on the edge of the industrial Ruhr area.
Police later said that the road passing directly in front of the synagogue was closed, but they were escorting passersby through the closed section upon request.
