‘Ghehraiyaan’ script inspired my songs: Ankur Tiwari

The lyricist on producing the film’s title track, focuses on modern-day relationships

For lyricist Ankur Tiwari, the song was “entirely driven by the demands of the script”. “It is a beautiful script by Shakun Batra and Ayesha Devitre. The script explores modern-day relationships in an urban environment, and being a part of it as a lyricist was quite inspiring,” he says.

Ankur has been a part of the music industry for over two decades and his band Ankur and the Wrong Family which he formed in 2009 brought some fun independent music. However, Bollywood got up and saw Ankur only when he supervised Zoya Akhtar’s 18-track music Gully Boy in 2019. “I think life is a series of successes and failures and people notice successes. Ankur’s childhood was spent in Roorkee near Dehradun. He was the catalyst for his artistic pursuits. “I grew up on campus, my father was a professor in a university that is now an IIT. My mother used to direct plays. So, the house was like an open house. There was a lot of music and art and culture around me. I had the privilege of being surrounded by so many artists, actors, poets, writers. It was a great privilege for me to have such a beautiful childhood,” he says, adding, “My family always supported my decisions in terms of whatever I was going through. ,

Explaining that he never went to any film or music school, Ankur says, “I am inspired by curiosity, stories, people and events.” He likens his life to being “at a university where each project is like a fresh semester. They end up teaching you about different styles of how different people view stories and life. Inspirational.”
