Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) of G20 countries have gathered in Bengaluru for the meeting under the chairmanship of India.

Top economist Gita Gopinath met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the sidelines of the ongoing G20 meet in Bengaluru. Finance ministers and central bank governors (FMCBG) of G20 countries have gathered in Bengaluru to discuss issues like huge debt in developing and poor economies, cryptocurrencies and much more. The G20 FMCBG meeting is scheduled for February 24 and 25. Posting a picture with Ms Sitharaman on Twitter, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), “It was really nice meeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the G20 FMCBG. Lots of good discussions in the G20 meetings in Bengaluru.

Gita Gopinath also tweeted a picture with Nadia Calvino, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister of Spain. Calvino also chose to wear a sari to the meet to blend in with the mood of the G20 meet. “Nadia Calvino, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy in Spain, who has always contributed immensely to helping solve global issues, fits perfectly at the G20 in Bengaluru!” she wrote.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to address the need for a global framework to regulate assets based on cryptocurrencies and credit risk. The two leaders also discussed strengthening multilateral development banks.

India assumed the chairmanship of G20 for one year from December 1, 2022.

The G20 meet in Bengaluru focuses on the upcoming economic and environmental challenges that the world is currently facing. The meeting will also be attended by representatives of international organizations working in relevant fields. The focus areas of the meeting have been zeroed in on the basis of the importance of their impact with previous presidencies and in countries.
