Paul Mescal set to star in sequel
Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” sequel will hit theaters on November 22, 2024.
according to entertainment website hollywood reporterParamount Pictures announced the release date for the upcoming film on Friday.
“Aftersun” star Paul Mescal is in talks to star in the film.
The untitled sequel will be produced by Scott, Michael Prause, president of his Scott Free Productions, Doug Vick of Red Wagon Entertainment, and Lucy Fisher.
David Scarpa will write the screenplay.
“Gladiator”, which released in 2000, starred Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman soldier forced into slavery who vows revenge against Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. In the sequel, Mescal will play Lucius, the son of Maximus’ lover Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen).
Mescal is nominated for a Best Actor Oscar at the 2023 Academy Awards for his performance as a troubled young father in the indie film “Aftersun”.
