Independent MLA Rohan Khunte, who had served as a minister, on Wednesday resigned from the Goa Assembly, months ahead of the elections. According to sources, he will join the ruling BJP. Khunte met Speaker Rajesh Patnekar on Wednesday afternoon to tender his resignation from the MLA’s post.
He had represented Porvorim assembly constituency twice as an independent. With the resignation of Khaunte, the strength of Goa House has now come down from 40 to 36. Earlier, Congress MLAs Ravi Naik, Luizinho Faleiro and Goa Forward Party MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar had resigned ahead of the elections.
