Panaji : Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawdkar said on Tuesday that they have accepted the disqualification petitions against the former chief minister Digambar Kamati and former Leader of the Opposition Michael LoboAnd will listen to them after the current session is over.
The Speaker said that State Congress President Amit Patkar filed a petition, but he was not met. “Today (Tuesday) they came to me and explained how the disqualification petition fits with the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution,” he said.

“I told him that I am busy with the business of the assembly and will hear the matter after the session is over.”
The MLA secretary will first issue notices to Kamat and Lobo and later the hearing of the case will begin.

The petitions were filed on Monday, a day after the Kamat-led group’s merger with the BJP failed.
“We have filed a disqualification petition against two of our senior leaders as they have voluntarily given up the membership of the party. There is a Supreme Court judgment in 2020 which says that any anti-party activity is tantamount to voluntarily giving up the membership of the party. Congress state president Amit Patkar had said.

Sources said the Congress had filed a disqualification petition to prevent the merger in future. The Congress was successful in preventing the merger of the Kamat-led group on Sunday. One of the disbanded MLAs said they would try the merger again as it failed at the last minute.
