GODI becomes first company in India to get BIS certification for India-made Li-ion cells – Times of India

GODI India today announced that it has become the first company in the country to receive the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its 21700 Cylindrical NMC811 Lithium-Ion Cell. The company says that the in-house design and made-in-India cell was tested and qualified by third-party testing agency TUV as per BIS requirement. The company also revealed that it will set up a giga-factory to manufacture battery cells in India by 2024.
Mahesh Godi, Founder and CEO, Godi India says, Lithium-ion battery-based storage solutions will gain prominence and localization of cells tailor-made for Indian conditions will play a vital role for both automotive and energy storage applications (ESS).
“For the first time in Indian history, NMC811 21700, 3.65V-4.5Ah Cylindrical Cell Made-in-India and Made-for-India.”

GODI India claims that its BIS-certified Lithium-Ion cells offer seven percent cost savings to its customers. It said it works closely with research institutions and other government agencies to ensure quality standards.
The company further states that it works with 30+ in-house scientists (PhD) and engineers. It further points to a manufacturing facility that will have the latest technology, including carbon-neutral processes powered by renewable energy.
“Recognizing the need (for lithium-ion manufacturing), we are setting up our first indigenous giga-factory for lithium-ion cell manufacturing in India by 2024. The new factory is expected to power the EVs and stationary storage industry in India. And we will do our best to make the plant a sustainable battery cell with the least carbon footprint and CO2 emissions.”
“Our newly developed lithium-ion cell (4.5Ah capacity) with an energy density of 235 Wh/kg has a long range that meets the demands of our customers.”
