The Customs Aerial Intelligence Unit at the Kochi airport on Friday foiled yet another attempt to smuggle gold as 805 grams of mixed gold was seized from a passenger.
The cost of the extracted gold is around Rs 40 lakh. The passenger has been identified as Rishad of Palakkad. He came from Abu Dhabi.
Rishad was caught on the green channel based on the profiling done by the Customs officials. During investigation, four gold capsules were found hidden in mixed form in his body. Investigation is on to ascertain the source and destination of the smuggling.
Converting gold into a compound form to evade metal detectors has emerged as a popular ploy among smugglers.
