After Delhi’s air pollution remained a bit low in the national capital, the Delhi government has lifted the ban on BS3 petrol vehicles and BS4 diesel cars. As Delhi sees an improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI), slowly and gradually the government is making changes to the GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) that was implemented last week. A few days ago, the Delhi government scrapped the GRAP and allowed the entry of non-BS6 diesel vehicles, which were earlier restricted under the new strategy to curb pollution. GRAP also banned private BS4 and BS4 diesel cars.
Before the ban was lifted, the Delhi Traffic Police was barred from entering Delhi, while over 1,200 diesel light motor vehicles were seized under GRAP. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the new directions of the Centre’s air quality panel on lifting restrictions imposed under the last phase of the Graded Response Action Plan, officials said.

The Centre’s air quality panel had last week directed officials to lift the ban on plying of non-BS VI diesel-powered light motor vehicles in Delhi-NCR and ban entry of trucks into the capital under the final phase of GRAP.
The restrictions were imposed a few days back. As Delhi’s air quality index soared to 450, a notch below the “severe plus” category on Thursday, the Air Quality Management Commission asked officials to ban the operation of non-BS VI diesel light motor vehicles in the city and adjoining areas. instructed to install.
