Google is changing the way its password manager works on Chrome and Android: All the details

July 2, 2022
Sezarr

Google has updated the password manager for Chrome and Android users, giving them more features and the ability to manually add passwords to the service. Earlier these features would be available only for Chrome users but now Google is bringing them to all platforms.

These new changes are giving Google an opportunity to make its password manager a reliable alternative to the likes of 1Password and other services.

The power to manually add passwords is helpful, allowing people to enter all-important passwords into the service. This way you don’t need to rely on a password manager to save the credentials.

Apart from these, Android users get a new touch-to-login option, where all you have to do is tap on the login area of any website and get a drop-down box with the saved credentials for the said platform . Google says the new process will help speed up the login process with less friction and better security assurance.

Password managers are an important tool in this day and age, especially as cyber hacks are increasingly prevalent. Google is looking to redesign its approach to the service, and also integrate the experience between Chrome and Android, which is essential for cross-platform devices with similar traits.

Google wants to sync Chrome’s data and other features with Android, just as Apple has somewhat resolved between iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. And giving an integrated password manager that works seamlessly between platforms will make life easier for users.

For the foreseeable future, Google is equally embracing the promise of passwordless login that turns out to be a viable solution to Passkey. Apple and Microsoft are other tech giants that have started working in this direction for a cross-platform, cross-service experience.
