Google, MeitY launch AppScale Academy to help Indian startups grow business

Google and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) have announced the launch of AppScale Academy – a new program aimed at ensuring the “next stage of growth” for startups. Build high-quality apps for the world. Google states that 100 startups will be trained through a “customized curriculum” that includes virtual instructor-led webinars, self-learning materials and mentorship sessions with leading local and global industry professionals. AppScale Academy will focus on six areas – App Quality, Go Global, Growth (User Acquisition and Monetization), App Design, Google Play Policy, and Data Security Best Practices.

Interested startups can apply for AppScale Academy through Events Google Website today, 27 October. The last date to apply has been set as December 15, and the class will be announced in January 2022. The dedicated website by Google notes that all Indian app developers covering gaming, fintech, business and more can apply. However, the startup’s core team will have to “commit to a six-month long training, coaching and mentorship program.”

Google also lists the benefits of the AppScale Academy program which include personalized advice from industry leaders and access to invite-only seminars from Google and MeitY. Developers will also have the opportunity of 1:1 mentorship from Google and industry experts. Most importantly, the program will prepare developers to take their ideas to investors. Some of the industry experts at the event include Alok Kejriwal, CEO and co-founder of Games2Win; Apramaya Radhakrishna, Co-Founder and CEO of Ku, Megha Agarwal, Vice President and General Manager of Development, Meesho; and Sairee Chahal, Founder and CEO of Sheeroz.

The AppScale Academy Program FAQ notes that only developers located in India can apply. Participants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submission. Additionally, no modification is allowed in the applications once submitted.
