Google Pixel Watch incorrectly counting calories due to a Fitbit bug: Report

Tech giant Google has confirmed a bug in the Pixel Watch’s Fitbit app that incorrectly counts calories.

According to 9to5Google, Pixel Watch users have noticed that the calories counted on the Pixel Watch differ from those of other smartwatches or fitness trackers, such as the Galaxy Watch 5 or Apple Watch.

Since smartwatches will never be 100 percent accurate in terms of calorie count, it was strange to notice so much variation in Google’s new smartwatch.

The folks at Android Police found that, compared to the Galaxy Watch 4, their Pixel Watch counts will burn 50 percent more calories.

Google has since confirmed to the outlet that this isn’t meant to be, and is instead a software glitch, 9to5Google reports.

The Pixel Watch calculates calories burned based on users’ heart rate and activities, and compares them against their age, height, and weight, just like other smartwatches and fitness trackers.

Google also clarified that the calorie count is behaving normally during workouts.

The report says that if there is a difference between the Pixel Watch and other devices in that regard and the user’s data is accurate, the difference could be chalked up to the different algorithms that Fitbit uses versus the competition.
