Government has no plans to merge NEET, JEE with CUET for next two years: Pradhan

Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan said that there is no plan to merge engineering entrance exam JEE and medical entrance exam NEET with Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

During his one-day visit to Kota, interacting with students from his home state Odisha of Allen Career Institute, the Minister said, “The merger of NEET, JEE and CUET is currently a concept, an idea and the government has not done so yet. It has been decided in principle,” as reported by news agency PTI.

There is no proposal to merge NEET, JEE with CUET and it will take at least two years to decide on the concept of merging the three examinations and conduct a combined examination. Dharmendra Pradhan Said not to be afraid of the students.

University Grants Commission chairman Jagdish Kumar had said last month that JEE and NEET would be merged with CUET in future.

On increasing content in books from class 9 onwards, so that students do not have to consult other books to prepare for competitive exams, Pradhan said that new books would come out in the next two years under the New Education Policy-2020.

The implementation of NEP-2020 has started and the books of five year foundation course called Bal Vatika (Kindergarten) will be available in schools by February 2023.

The minister said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government envisions setting up a digital university in the country, in which students can pursue multidisciplinary courses leading to dual degrees.

Meanwhile, the Minister asked the students to give their suggestions on the content of books and study material for the National Curriculum Framework Citizen Survey and assured them that their views would be considered.

Every year thousands of students from across the country enroll in various coaching institutes in Kota to prepare for various exams.
