Government’s plan Sagarmala 2.0 with fresh funding for Bridge Infra Gaps: SonOwal

New Delhi, March 19 (PTI) The government is planning Sagarmala 2.0 on Wednesday with a new funding to bridge the infrastructure interval, Sangh ports, shipping and waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Addressing the 4th National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC), he said that the government has invested Rs 5.79 lakh crore to develop 839 projects in the country under the Sagarmala program.

He said that the Modi government is committed to the change of maritime sector.

Implementation of major projects under Sagarmala – The major program of the Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterway (MOPSW) was reviewed.

Sonowal said, “As we move towards Sagarmala 2.0, our focus is on reducing the gap of important infrastructure with fresh investment, running coastal economic development and bringing India into a position as a global maritime leader.”

Sagarmala 2.0 is a visionary upgrade that focuses a new focus on shipbuilding, repair, breaking and recycling. Sagarmala 1.0 will finish in 2026.

Supporting Rs 40,000 crore in budgetary support, it aims to catalyze investment of Rs 12 lakh crore in the next decade.

According to an official statement, under Sagarmala, 234 port modernization projects are worth Rs 2.91 lakh crore, with 103 projects, completing 230 MTPA capacity.

In connectivity, 279 projects worth Rs 2.06 lakh crore are being implemented, with 92 projects, a port of 1,500 km has been promoted, it has been said.

According to the statement, 14 projects worth Rs 55,000 crore were seen in the industrialization led by the port, out of which nine was completed.

The NSAC was formed in May 2015 for the Port-LED development plan and implementation under the Sagarmala Project.

The NSAC policy is the top body to monitor the direction and the Sagarmala program.

MOPSW, NITI Aayog, senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and other line ministries along with senior representatives of the states and UTS participated in the discussion. PTI BKS TRB
