‘Great friendship must last’: Ex-India batsman feels Dhoni-Raina tussle will be lacking in IPL

With veteran all-rounder Suresh Raina not getting the Indian Premier League (IPL) contract in the mega auction, the attention of the cricket fraternity continues to attract attention. Former India batsman Vinod Kambli is the latest to join the bandwagon, who believes that Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’ Mr. IPL’ and captain MS Dhoni.

Raina, who scored more than 5000 runs in 205 IPL matches, got himself registered at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Unfortunately, he could not find a buyer. The most surprising aspect was that CSK was not bidding for their highest scorer in the auction.

Taking to Indian microblogging site Koo, Kambli wrote, “SureshRaina #Chinnathala who played for Chennai and has been a prolific scorer, went unsold in IPL. We will miss him in the league and he deserves a good farewell. The IPL will surely miss the gap between Dhoni and Raina. The great friendship must last. #Thala and #Chinnathala are irreplaceable for Chennai.

Meanwhile, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanath revealed not going for Raina in the auction.

“Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us to not have Raina, but at the same time, you must also understand that the composition of the team depends on the form and type of team that any team would like to have, so there is a reason for this. We thought he might not fit into this team.”

Raina has scored 5,615 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 35.31. He also recorded 768 runs in the longest format of the game, with his highest score being 120.
