Vadodara: Members of a group clashed with each other during a Ganesh procession in Panigate area late on Monday night in communally sensitive walled areas of Vadodara.
The window panes of a mosque were damaged as the group pelted stones at each other and also damaged roadside vehicles.
Police have detained 13 people in connection with the midnight riots. “It was not a communal riot. The members of the same community clashed with each other over some issue during the Ganesh procession and started beating. They pelted stones at each other,” said a senior police officer. The policemen present on the spot dispersed the rioting group. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said they have CCTV footage of the incident. Investigation has revealed that history-sheeter Charmis Kahar and his men were involved in the fighting. All of them have been booked for rioting by the police and security has been beefed up in communally sensitive areas.
