Earlier on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence of forming the BJP government in the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections and said the party would “break all records and win with the maximum number of seats”.
The home minister is in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad where he accompanied the candidate for Sanand constituency to file nomination for the upcoming assembly elections.
Amit Shah had said, “BJP will break all records in this assembly election and will win with the maximum number of seats and form the government with a majority.” Shah praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel And said that he is speeding up the development works in the state.
The Home Minister also mentioned the law and order situation and said that it has improved in the state.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has done many development works in the state. Law and order has been strengthened and he (CM) has also given a boost to the economy and made improvements in health, education and various other areas,” he said. Shah said that Bhupendra Patel, when he was the chief minister of Gujarat, carried forward a model developed by Modi for the overall development of Dalits, tribals and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
Patel took over as chief minister in September 2021, replacing Vijay Rupani, a move that surprised many. He has become MLA for the first time from Ghatlodia constituency. He has been nominated again from the same seat. Earlier, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party had declared party leader Isudan Gadhvi as its chief ministerial candidate after conducting a “public survey”. The Congress has decided not to announce the CM face for the polls.
Polling for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. Polling will be held on 89 seats in the first phase and 93 seats including Sanand in the second phase. The last date for filing nominations for the second phase is November 17.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Kanu Patel to contest from the Sanand constituency of Ahmedabad for the elections to be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5.
The BJP on Monday released its fourth list of candidates, announcing 12 names including two women candidates.
Earlier, the party had released the names of 167 candidates for the Gujarat elections.
BJP has given ticket to Lovingji Thakor from Radhanpur while VJ Jhala from Himmatnagar. Alpesh Thakor has been fielded from Gandhinagar South.
The party has also fielded Rajulben Desai and Ritaben Patel from Patan and Gandhinagar North, respectively. Apart from this, Babu Singh Jadhav will contest from Vatva.
In the second list of six candidates released on Saturday, the BJP had also given tickets to at least two women.
The BJP on Thursday released the first list of candidates for 160 candidates out of 182 seats for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections.
In the first list of 160 candidates, 14 women, 13 from SC, 24 from ST and 69 candidates were repeated.
Assembly elections in Gujarat are to be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5.
In the first phase, polling will be held on 89 out of total 182 assembly seats and major political parties have declared their candidates for almost all these constituencies.
BJP has prepared a list of star campaigners for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections. At the top of the list is Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Other prominent names in the list include BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union cabinet colleagues Smriti Irani, Dharmendra Pradhan, Mansukh Mandaviya and Purushottam Rupala. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who is seeking a fresh mandate from Ghatlodia assembly constituency, also features in the list of star campaigners along with BJP state president CR Patil and state home minister Harsh Shanghvi.
The ruling party is seeking its seventh, straight term in power in the upcoming state elections. The state has been a BJP bastion for long and the party is eyeing a return to power with a thumping majority this time.
